McNair, Others Announce Formation Of “Black Quarterback Club"

As if by design, it seems no accident that SuperBowl XLI kicked off Black History Month by making history with two Black Head Coaches leading their teams to the big game.
.
To further level the playing field in high school, college and professional football, Baltimore Ravens' quarterback Steve McNair and a network of former and current NFL QBs including Vince Young (Titans) and Jason Campbell (Redskins), have joined forces to announce the formation of The Black Quarterback Club (BQC).
.
The BQC is designed to encourage future athletic leaders by offering programs that strengthen young athletes both physically and mentally.
.
"For years, there has been a lack of African Americans in quarterback positions," said McNair, founding member of the Black Quarterback Club. READ MORE CLICK HERE...

Black Lawmakers Seek Restrictions on Menthol Cigarettes
Written by STEPHANIE SAUL
Tuesday, 01 July 2008
The Congressional Black Caucus is calling for changes to a House tobacco-regulation bill, demanding that the legislation place restrictions on menthol cigarettes, the type heavily favored by African-American smokers.

Representative Donna M. Christensen, head of the black caucus’s health task force, is helping to lead a challenge to a House bill that fails to address the marketing of menthol cigarettes.
.
Louis W. Sullivan, above, secretary of health under President George H. W. Bush, and others are asking the sponsor, Representative Henry A. Waxman, to change the legislation.
.
The 43-member caucus is taking aim at a provision in the bill that would ban candy-, fruit- and spice-flavored cigarettes but that specifically exempts menthol. In recent weeks the exemption has become the focus of controversy because menthol brands are heavily used by black smokers, who develop a large share of smoking-related cancers and other health risks.  More...CLICK HERE

$63 Million Ouch For EBay: Court Sides With Louis Vuitton

Tuesday, Jul 1, 2008 5:01 AM ET

LVMH, the luxury goods company, says that a commercial court in Paris has upheld its claim against eBay, ordering the online retailer to pay the equivalent of $63 million to Vuitton for counterfeit leather goods, and LVMH's Christian Dior unit for unlawful sales of fragrances.

The court ruled that eBay was guilty of gross misconduct and negligence by not preventing the sale of the counterfeit goods on its site. It also ordered eBay to report the verdict on both its French and English sites. "This verdict represents an important step in the protection of brands and designs against parasitic practices," the company says in its release. Ebay will reportedly appeal the ruling.

Ford Pitches Lincoln MKS To Younger African-American Crowd
by Karl Greenberg, Wednesday, Jun 25, 2008 5:00 AM ET
Ford Lincoln MKS Ford's luxury division, Lincoln, is pitching Gen X African-American consumers with a new campaign centering on a three-minute short film all about a Hollywood romance and the division's new car, the MKS.

The effort is via UniWorld Group Inc., Ford's AOR for the African American market, parallels a general market campaign via Team Detroit that launched earlier this month. The agency says the thinking was to move away from the traditional 30- and 60-second spots and launch the campaign with a "movie" commercial, debuting on national TV, and later living primarily online.

The film, "MadCrazyLove," shot in Hollywood, Calif., touts the car through a romance story set to the music of Marvin Gaye. The film shows a first encounter at a cocktail party, and takes the couple through the streets and hills of Hollywood and local clubs. The couple drives the MKS, and the ad makes the most of it, focusing on vehicle attributes like the car's dual-panel moon roof, the exterior design of the car, and entertainment and information features like Sirius Travel Link and Ford Sync.
